Standing at an altitude of 2,860 meters, Lao Than is known as the 'roof of Y Ty,' located in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province. This place is an ideal destination that nature has gifted to trekking lovers. Lao Than is not a difficult peak to conquer and is often considered a 'beginner's mountain' for those just stepping into the world of trekking and cloud hunting.

Itinerary
1st night: Ha Noi – Lao Cai (Join in group tour departs every Friday)

18:00 - Arriving at the departure point and boarding the bus to Lao Cai. We will travel to Sapa by bus. After approximately 45 to 50 minutes, we will arrive at Noi Bai Airport to pick up those who registered for this pick-up point.

23:00 - Arriving in Lao Cai, checking in the hotel, and having a rest for the night.

1st day: Lao Cai – Y Ty – Mountain Shed Overnight

07:30 - Having breakfast in Lao Cai. After breakfast, we will have coffee and wait for the car to pick us up.

09:00 - Boarding the car to head to the starting point of the trek in Y Ty.

11:30 - Having lunch in Y Ty and preparing for the journey to conquer Lao Than Peak.

12:30 - Start trekking. After about 4 hours of trekking, we will reach the overnight shed just as the sunset begins. We'll settle in, freshen up, and relax after the first day's journey. While waiting for dinner, we can either help the porters cook or take a walk around the shelter to enjoy the sunset.

18:30 - Having dinner and group gathering to share experiences with fellow travelers, then enjoy some free time in the peaceful mountain surroundings. Staying overnight in a windproof wooden shed equipped with blankets and insulated mats to keep warm.

2nd day: Mountain Shed – Lao Than Peak 2860m – Y Ty – Ha Noi

04:30 - Waking up early for breakfast, and having a warm cup of coffee or ginger tea.

05:30 - Beginning the final stage of the trek to reach the summit of Lao Than.

06:00 - Arriving at the summit of Lao Than, where we will rest, take photos, and enjoy the breathtaking views.

08:30 - Coming back to the camp to pack up personal belongings and trek back to the original starting point.

12:00 - Having lunch in Y Ty before taking the car back to Lao Cai.

18:00 - Arriving back in Lao Cai and Taking shower with the traditional herbal.

19:00 - Having dinner at a local restaurant.

22:00 - Boarding the overnight bus. We will arrive in Hanoi at around 03:00 the next morning. End of the tour.

Difficulty of the activity

Difficulty Level (6/10): Most people can participate in the time, children from 6 years old and above also can join with parents. It will be easier and more comfortable for you to experience outdoor activities if you have good preparation for physical training before the trip. The duration of each trip is 2 days generally. With those trekking tours at this level, it might take 2 – 3 hours/day to do the trek with the relatively easy terrain. At the same level, the kayaking and SUP tours, 2 – 3 hours/ days paddling with the large water surface, and plenty of times to take photos and rest as well.

Suggested physical training: Practice running or kayaking/SUP 1 - 2 weeks in advance. Run twice a week, each session 3 - 5km every night. Or paddling from 2- 3 times, each time is 5 km.

● The customers who buy adventure tours from Umove Adventure have enough awareness about the level of challenge as well as other physical challenges and other potential dangers during the tour. 4. Trekking Route Note

● This trek features diverse terrain and is not overly challenging among the 10 highest peaks in Vietnam. Lao Than is often considered the "entry-level" peak for those new to mountaineering.

● Umove Adventure recommends you bring a backpack of about 10L and limit your load to no more than 2kg, including essential items for hiking such as a wallet, phone, and drinking water. Your personal belongings, like clothes to change at the campsite and daily drinking water, as well as food for meals on the mountain, will be carried by the porter.

5. Overnight on the Mountain

● We will sleep in a wooden shed on the mountain for one night. There are restrooms and showers at the camp. You will be provided with an air mattress or an insulated mat and a blanket or sleeping bag.

6. Food & Water

● Dinner on the mountain will be freshly prepared by the porter team. Breakfast may consist of fried rice, instant noodles, or crepes. Lunch is usually pre-prepared cold food. 

● The drinking water on the mountain will be boiled spring water provided by the porter team for sterilization. Participants should bring a water bottle to fill and use daily. 

● Hot tea and coffee will be available at the campsite before and after each meal.

7. Protecting the environment together

● Umove Adventure supports and practices Leave No Trace principles in each program and outdoor activities itself. We also encourage our customers and partners to apply to Leave No Trace principles when traveling in the outdoor environment. See details about the Leave No Trace tại đây

● In order to limit the use of single-use plastic, Umove Adventure encourages each of us to prepare for ourselves a bottle of water with a 1L capacity for daily water refilling.

● On the tour, tourists comply with the instructions and regulations on environmental protection at the destination. 

8. Medical assistance

● If you have cardiovascular disease or bone and joint diseases (knees, ankles, shoulder joints, etc.), you should consult your doctor before deciding to join the trip. 

● The tour guide will carry a basic first aid kit. If you have any medical problems that require medication, you should bring your own medication.

1. What is the best time to join this program?

The ideal time for you to start your Lao Than Y Ty Trekking journey is from October to April every year. At this time, the weather is ideal, with little rain, so the trekking route is also guaranteed to be safe. From September to October, you will admire the golden ripe terraced fields and the golden grass forest. From November to February every year is very suitable for cloud hunting and watching the sunrise.

 

2. At what age can children join this tour?

This tour is suitable for children 12 years and older accompanied by a parent or adult.

 

3. Can I join this program if I don’t have trekking experience?

This is a multi-day trek with challenging terrain, as it covers one of the 15 highest peaks in Vietnam. If you have never climbed a mountain or exercised infrequently, you should prepare physically before the trip. You can refer to preparation guidelines for a trek rated 7/10 difficulty here.

 

4. Can I join this tour alone?

This is a group tour, so you can join by yourself. However, the tour requires a minimum of 7 participants to proceed. If the minimum number is not met, UA will notify you a week in advance, allowing you to either change your departure date or receive a refund of your deposit.

 

5. How much is the deposit, and when do I pay the remaining balance?

Upon registering, customers must deposit 50% of the total tour cost via bank transfer or credit card through Onepay. The remaining 50% must be paid no later than one day before departure, also via bank transfer or Onepay. 

UA will not confirm your booking until the deposit has been received.

 

6. Can I postpone or cancel my tour before departure?

Depending on how far in advance you cancel or postpone, you may incur a fee. If you wish to change your departure date or switch to another tour, Umove Adventure will reschedule for you and may or may not charge a fee. Please see our Cancellation Policy for details.

 

7. Can the tour accommodate my vegetarian (or other dietary) needs?

You must inform Umove Adventure of your dietary requirements, such as vegetarian or other dietary restrictions, before booking. We will check whether the destination can accommodate your needs and inform you accordingly. Generally, Umove Adventure offers vegetarian options depending on the tour location.

 

8. What camping equipment does Umove Adventure provide on this tour?

9. Can I bring a pet (dog/cat) along?

Umove Adventure does not organize tours specifically for pet owners, so bringing a pet depends on the consent of the other participants. If you wish to bring a pet, Umove Adventure will consult with the other group members for their approval, and you will be fully responsible for maintaining cleanliness and ensuring your pet’s safety.

 

10. What are the toilet and shower arrangements during the trip?

For deep forest journeys, latrines will be used, with rangers designating a discreet and private location for you. At the wooden shelter where we spend the night, there will be toilets and showers available for your personal needs.

 

11. Is there phone reception at the campsite?

Our campsite is at an altitude of 2800m, where phone reception will no longer be available. Please take care of any personal matters before starting your journey to conquer Nhìu Cổ San.
