Tour overview

Samu - U Bo Peak (also known as Samu Peak) is one of the three peaks in the Devil's Triangle area (as the locals call it), belonging to the Ta Xua special-use forest. The peak is 2756m high and is located on the border of Yen Bai and Son La provinces. Around March and April every year, this place is the kingdom of exotic flowers and herbs in the middle of the primeval forest full of mystery and magic, making many people wish to see this beautiful landscape with their own eyes.

There are many trekking routes to conquer Sa Mu peak, but the easiest route with very beautiful scenery is the route starting from Xim Vang of Bac Yen, Son La, going to Samu peak, then going down the mountain by another way to return to Xim Vang. This route is not time-sensitive, so trekkers will have plenty of time to admire the extremely mysterious beauty of nature here.

Highlight

  • The 'gentle' trek route offers stunning scenery
  • Experiencing the most beautiful moss forests, ancient forests, and Samu forests along this trail.
  • Conquering 2 peaks: U Bo & Samu Cloud hunting and witnessing a beautiful sunrise at the summit
  • Soaking foot with herbal at the resting shed

4. Notes on the trekking route

● This is a moderately difficult trekking route (6/10), comparable to Lao Than or Lung Cung. However, we will trek through dense forests with several short but steep sections, so it is recommended that you prepare physically before the trip (refer to the Physical Preparation Suggestions section).

● Umove Adventure advises carrying a 10L backpack with no more than 2kg of essential items for the hike, such as a wallet, phone, and water. Your personal belongings, such as clothes for changing at the camp, daily drinking water, and food for meals on the mountain, will be carried by the porter.

● The overnight shed on the mountain provides mattresses, sleeping bags, or blankets. The camp also has bathrooms and toilets. Hot water is not available in the showers, but if needed, you can purchase hot water directly from the porter (who boils water at the camp).

6. Food & drinks

● Dinners on the mountain consist of hot meals prepared by the porter team (such as hot pot or grilled dishes). Breakfast is typically fried rice, instant noodles, or crepes. Lunch is usually cold food prepared in advance.

● Drinking water on the mountain is boiled from stream water by the porter team for disinfection. Participants should bring a water bottle to refill for daily use. At the overnight camp, hot tea and coffee will be available before and after each meal.

7. Protecting the environment together

● Umove Adventure supports and practices Leave No Trace principles in each program and outdoor activities itself. We also encourage our customers and partners to apply to Leave No Trace principles when traveling in the outdoor environment. See details about the Leave No Trace tại đây

8. Medical assistance

● If you have cardiovascular disease or bone and joint diseases (knees, ankles, shoulder joints, etc.), you should consult your doctor before deciding to join the trip.

Hỏi & đáp về tour
1. When is the best time to join this program?

The best time to explore Samu is from September to April of the following year. From about September to November, maple leaves change color to yellow and red; March and April are the rhododendron flower season. From December to February is the easiest time to hunt clouds on the top.

2. What is the minimum age for children to join this tour?

This tour is suitable for children 12 years and older accompanied by a parent or adult.

3. I have no trekking experience. Can I still join this program?

This is a trek with an average difficulty level (6/10), equivalent to Lao Than or Lung Cung. However, we will go through dense forests and many short sections have steep slopes, so you should prepare your physical strength before the trip. You should refer to the notes and instructions for preparing for a trip with a difficulty level of 6/10 here.

4. Can I join this tour if I’m traveling alone?

This is a group tour, so you can join alone. However, the tour requires a minimum of 7 participants to proceed. If the minimum number is not met, UA will notify you one week in advance, allowing you to either change the departure date or receive a refund of your deposit.

5. How much deposit do I need to pay when registering? When is the remaining balance due?

Upon registration, customers must pay a 50% deposit via bank transfer or by card through Onepay. The remaining 50% must be paid no later than one day before the departure date, also via bank transfer or credit card through Onepay.

UA will not confirm the booking until the deposit has been received.

6. Can I postpone or cancel the tour before the departure date?

Cancellation fees depend on how far in advance you cancel from the departure date. If you wish to postpone the tour or switch to a different one, Umove Adventure can arrange a new departure date for you with applicable fees (or without fees). For details, see our Cancellation Policy.

7. If I’m vegetarian (or have specific dietary restrictions), will the tour accommodate my needs?

You will need to inform Umove Adventure of your dietary requirements when booking the tour. We will check if the destination can accommodate your needs and notify you accordingly. Typically, Umove Adventure offers vegetarian options depending on the location of the tour.

8. What camping equipment will Umove Adventure provide during this tour?

Please refer to the “Equipment” section in the detailed tour description.

9. Can I bring my pet (dog/cat) on the tour?

Umove Adventure does not organize tours specifically for guests with pets, so bringing a pet depends on the agreement of other tour participants. If you wish to bring a pet, Umove Adventure will ask for the consent of all tour members. You will be fully responsible for maintaining hygiene and ensuring your pet’s safety.

10. What are the toilet and shower facilities like during the journey?

In remote forest areas, a buried latrine system will be used. Rangers will set up a secluded, private location for you. At the wooden hut in Ta Xua where we will stay overnight, there will be toilets and showers available for personal use.

11. Is there the phone signal at the campsite?

We will camp on the mountain so phone signal will no longer be available. You should arrange your personal work before starting the journey to conquer Samu peak.
