Tour overview

Ba Ham Lake is a system of three interconnected lagoons, linked by dark caves that run through the mountains. Upon entering these lagoons, it feels like stepping into a mystical paradise due to the incredible beauty and serenity of the area. The only way to access these enclosed lagoons is by kayak. However, it's not always possible to enter Ba Ham Lake; during high tide or when the tide is receding strongly, access may be restricted. Therefore, this program requires an experienced guide to determine when it is safe to paddle into Ba Ham Lake. Ba Ham Lake is located on Dau Be Island, approximately a 45-minute boat ride from Beo wharf, Cat Ba. Surrounding Ba Ham Lake are many beautiful beaches and a small fishing village.

Highlights

4. Notes on the Kayaking Route

  • Before starting the kayaking session, the guide will provide basic paddling instructions, explain the planned route, and give a safety briefing. A properly fitted life jacket must be worn at all times while kayaking.
  • While kayaking in the bay, always remain aware of your surroundings and keep a safe distance from reefs, rocks, boats, and other obstacles. Avoid paddling too close to rock walls, particularly in rough or wavy conditions, as waves may push the kayak against the rocks or sharp barnacles.
  • When kayaking through caves, a flashlight or headlamp must be used where required. Stay with the group and always follow the guide’s instructions.

Q&A
1. When is the best time to join this program?

Summer is the most ideal time to visit Cat Ba. The best months for water activities are from April to October. From November to March, the island is quieter, but it's the perfect time for nature exploration and relaxation. July and August are typically stormy months, so visitors should check the weather forecast three to five days in advance to ensure there are no storms.

2. What age is suitable for children to join this tour?

This tour is suitable for children aged 12 and above, accompanied by their parents or adults.

3. I've never paddled a SUP/Kayak before, can I still join this tour?

The tour has a difficulty level of 5/10, so even those who have never paddled a SUP before can still participate. Before entering the water, the guide will teach the group basic paddling skills and safety techniques. Guests will also have time to get familiar with the SUP before paddling.

4. Can I join the tour if I'm traveling alone?

This is a group tour, so you can join alone. However, the minimum number of participants for the tour to start is 5. If the minimum number isn't met, UA will notify you one week in advance so you can either reschedule or get a refund.

5. How much deposit do I need to make when booking? When is the remaining payment due?

When booking, customers need to deposit 50% of the total amount via bank transfer or card payment through Onepay. The remaining 50% should be paid no later than one day before the departure, also via bank transfer or credit card through Onepay.

UA will not confirm the booking until the deposit is received.

6. Can I postpone/cancel the tour before the departure date?

Depending on how far in advance you postpone or cancel the tour compared to the departure date, there may be a fee. If you want to reschedule the departure date or switch to a different tour, Umove Adventure will transfer your booking and may or may not charge a fee. Please refer to our Cancellation Policy for more details.

7. If I'm vegetarian (or have specific dietary restrictions), can the tour accommodate that?

You need to inform Umove Adventure of your dietary requirements when booking, and we will check whether the destination can meet those needs and let you know. Generally, Umove Adventure offers vegetarian options depending on the tour's location.

8. What camping gear will Umove Adventure provide on this tour?

Please refer to the "Equipment" section in the tour details for more information.

9. Can I bring my pet (dog/cat) along?

Umove Adventure does not offer specific tours for guests with pets, so bringing a pet depends on the agreement of other passengers on the tour. If you want to bring your pet, Umove Adventure will ask for the consent of the group, and you will be fully responsible for maintaining cleanliness and ensuring your pet's safety.

10. Is there cell phone reception at the campsite?

If you're too tired to continue paddling, inform the guide or support boat immediately for assistance. Most Umove Adventure tours have a support motorboat. If you're exhausted, you can board the motorboat and follow the rest of the group for the remainder of the tour.

11. Can I join the tour if I can't swim?

Yes, you can participate even if you can't swim, as long as you strictly follow the guide's safety instructions. Anyone paddling SUP and wanting to swim must wear a life jacket and secure the leash.
