Putaleng Peak, also known as Pu Ta Leng, stands at an altitude of 3,049 meters, making it the third highest peak in Vietnam. The summit is located in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, in Ta Leng commune, Tam Duong district, Lai Chau province.

Putaleng captivates visitors with the vibrant red of rhododendron flowers, a species hailed as the "queen of the forest" in the Northwest. However, this paradise offers much more. By conquering Putaleng, you'll experience crossing streams, trekking through dense forests, walking beneath wild bamboo canopies, getting lost in the mist of the Hoang Lien Son range, and stepping on endless carpets of crimson rhododendron blooms.

Itinerary
1st night: Hanoi - Sapa (join in group tour departing every Thursday evening)

22:00 - Arriving at the bus office. We will travel to Sapa by sleeper bus. After about 45 to 50 minutes of departure, we will arrive at Noi Bai Airport to pick up those who registered for this location.

* Dinner tonight is not included.

 

1st day: Sapa - Tam Duong - Ho Thau - Overnight Shed

05:00 - Arriving in Sapa; we will get off the bus to acclimatize to the highland climate. Moving to a place for breakfast and for personal hygiene.

07:15 - Boarding the bus to Ho Thau, Tam Duong, Lai Chau.

08:45 - Arriving at Ho Thau  and gathering with the Dao ethnic porter team. Beginning the journey to conquer the peak of Pu Ta Leng.

11:00 - Having lunch break along the way.

17:00 - Arriving at the overnight shed at an altitude of 2500m. This is also the time when sunset begins. We will store our belongings and take care of personal hygiene. The remaining time can be used to rest or help the porter team prepare dinner or freely stroll and admire the stunning sunset at the overnight camp.

18:30 - Having dinner and socializing by the campfire. If the weather is nice, we can enjoy the starry night sky in the quiet atmosphere of the mountains and forests. Staying overnight at the wooden camp.

2nd day: Overnight Shed - Peak of Pu Ta Leng - Overnight Shed

05:00 - Waking up early for breakfast. We will enjoy  warm coffee or ginger tea before heading to the summit.

07:00 - Starting the final ascent to reach the peak of Pu Ta Leng. We will leave our personal belongings at the camp and only take essential items to the summit.

10:30 - Reaching the peak of Pu Ta Leng, having a rest, taking photos, and enjoying the view from the top. After having lunch at the peak, we will return to the overnight camp.

12:45 - Arriving back at the camp, we will pack our things to move to the second overnight shed at a different shelter heading towards Ta Leng. The second overnight shed is located in a cardamom forest.

17:00 - Arriving at the overnight shed. Similar to the previous afternoon, we can rest or support the porter team, prepare dinner or freely stroll and enjoy the stunning sunset at the overnight camp.

18:30 - Having dinner and socializing by the campfire. Staying overnight at the wooden camp.

3rd day: Overnight Shed - Ta Leng - Sapa - Hanoi

05:30 - Waking up early for breakfast and watching the sunrise.

06:45 - Packing personal belongings and trekking for about 6 hours down to the center of Ta Leng commune.

12:45 - Having a light lunch and rest before boarding the bus back to Sapa.

16:00 - Arriving in Sapa; we will take a herbal bath from the Dao people, soaking in warm water with Dao herbs to relax after the challenging journey to conquer Pu Ta Leng.

19:00 - Having dinner at a local restaurant featuring Sapa specialties. Let’s raise a glass of sweet apple wine to celebrate the success of the trip.

23:00 - Boarding the sleeper bus to return to Hanoi. The bus will arrive at My Dinh bus station around 04:30 the next morning. End of the tour.

Difficulty of the activity

Difficulty Level (7/10): Good physical skills are a requirement, as well as experience in outdoor activities. This level is not for children. The duration of each trip is from 2  - 4 days with a basic of eating, and sleeping condition. Accommodation is camping. Trekking time might take 5 – 6 hours/day to do the trek with the difficult terrain, slopes, and high elevation. The kayaking and SUP tours might take from 6 – 7 hours/day of paddling.

● The customers who buy adventure tours from Umove Adventure have enough awareness about the level of challenge as well as other physical challenges and other potential dangers during the tour. 4. Notes on the trekking route

● This trekking route has a steep incline and is considered one of the more challenging among the 10 highest peaks in Vietnam. 

● Umove Adventure recommends that you carry a backpack of about 10L and limit your load to no more than 2kg, consisting of essential items for trekking, such as a wallet, phone, and water. Your personal belongings, such as clothes for changing at the hut, daily water, food for meals on the mountain, etc., will be carried by the porter.

5. Sleeping on the mountain

● We will sleep in a wooden shed in Pu Ta Leng for 2 nights. There are toilets and bathrooms here. When sleeping, you will be provided with an air mattress or insulated mat and a blanket or sleeping bag.

6. Food & water

● The dinners on the mountain will be hot meals cooked by the porter team. Breakfast will include fried rice, instant noodles, or crepes. Lunch is typically pre-prepared cold meals. 

● Drinking water on the mountain will be sourced from streams and boiled by the porter team to disinfect it. Participants should bring water bottles for daily use. 

At the sleeping point, there will be hot tea and coffee served before and after each meal.

7. Protecting the environment together

● Umove Adventure supports and practices Leave No Trace principles in each program and outdoor activities itself. We also encourage our customers and partners to apply to Leave No Trace principles when traveling in the outdoor environment. See details about the Leave No Trace tại đây

● In order to limit the use of single-use plastic, Umove Adventure encourages each of us to prepare for ourselves a bottle of water with a 1L capacity for daily water refilling.

● On the tour, tourists comply with the instructions and regulations on environmental protection at the destination. 

8. Medical assistance

● If you have cardiovascular disease or bone and joint diseases (knees, ankles, shoulder joints, etc.), you should consult your doctor before deciding to join the trip. 

● The tour guide will carry a basic first aid kit. If you have any medical problems that require medication, you should bring your own medication.

1. What is the best time to join this program?

Each period of time, Putaleng has its own beauty. From September to November you can see Putaleng in the yellow of rice and the red of maple leaves. From November to January, Putaleng will be covered in dense fog. If you are lucky, you can also encounter snow and ice covering the grass and trees. This time is also very suitable to hunt for floating clouds. . In March and April, Putaleng peak turns into the "capital" of azalea flowers. You will admire the endless forest of azalea flowers stretching to the horizon.

2. What age is suitable for children to join this tour?

UA does not recommend children participate in this tour because the tour is of high difficulty (level 7/10), however children over 12 years old who have previous experience participating in adventure tours can register to join together. adult.

 

3. Can I join this program if I have no trekking experience?

Putaleng has steep and winding rocky terrain, suitable for those with trekking experience and good physical strength. You should refer to the notes and instructions to prepare for the trip with a difficulty level of 7/10 here.

 

4. Can I join this tour by myself?

Yes, this is a group tour, so you can join on your own. However, the minimum number of participants required for the tour to proceed is 7. If the minimum number is not met, UA will notify you one week in advance so you can either reschedule or receive your deposit back.

 

5. How much do I need to deposit when booking? When should I pay the remaining amount?

When booking the tour, you need to deposit 50% of the total amount via bank transfer or credit card through Onepay. The remaining 50% must be paid no later than one day before the departure date, also via bank transfer or credit card through Onepay. 

UA will not confirm the booking until the deposit is received.

 

6. Can I postpone or cancel the tour before the departure date?

Depending on how far in advance you postpone or cancel compared to the departure date, there may be a fee. If you wish to change the departure date or switch to a different tour, Umove Adventure will assist in rescheduling and may apply a fee (or not). Please referring to our Cancellation Policy for details.

 

7. If I am a vegetarian (or have dietary restrictions), can the tour accommodate that?

You will need to inform Umove Adventure about your dietary requirements before booking, and we will check if the destination can accommodate your needs. Typically, Umove Adventure offers vegetarian options, depending on the tour's location.

 

8. What camping equipment will Umove Adventure provide for this tour?

9. Can I bring my pet (dog/cat) on the tour?

Umove Adventure does not organize tours specifically for pet owners. Bringing pets will depend on the consent of other participants in the group. If you wish to bring a pet, Umove Adventure will ask for the group’s approval, and you will be fully responsible for maintaining hygiene and ensuring your pet’s safety.

 

10. What are the arrangements for sanitation and bathing during the trip?

In forested areas, a trench toilet will be used. The park rangers will designate a secluded, private spot for you. On the second night, you can use the facilities at a wooden hut for personal hygiene.

 

11. Is there phone signal at the campsite?

We will camp at an altitude of 3049m so phone signal will no longer be available, you should arrange personal matters before starting the journey to conquer Mount Putaleng.
