Itinerary
Night 1: Hanoi - Sapa (Group tour departs every Friday)

22:00 Meet at the bus office and board the overnight sleeper bus to Sapa. Approximately 45–50 minutes after departure, the bus stops at Noi Bai International Airport to pick up guests who have registered for an airport pick-up.

Day 1: Sapa - Suoi Thau Village - Mountain Hut

04:30 Arrive in Sapa. Get off the bus, stretch and acclimatise to the highland climate. Transfer to the breakfast point, freshen up and leave behind any belongings that are not required during the trek, such as clean clothes for changing after the descent.

07:00 Transfer by vehicle to the trekking starting point at the salmon farm in Suoi Thau Village, Ta Giang Phinh, approximately 30km from Sapa.

07:45 Arrive in Suoi Thau Village. Meet the porter team, organise equipment and attend a safety and trekking briefing with your tour guide.

08:00 Begin trekking.

12:00 Stop for lunch along the trail. After lunch, continue the ascent towards the overnight mountain shelter at approximately 2,800m.

17:00 Reach the mountain shelter at approximately 2,800m as sunset begins. Settle in, organise your belongings and freshen up. Spend the remaining time resting, helping the porter team prepare dinner, or taking a short walk to enjoy the mountain sunset.

18:30 Enjoy dinner and time together around the fire. In clear weather, admire a star-filled night sky in the quiet mountain surroundings. Overnight in a wooden mountain shelter.

Day 2: Mountain Hut - Ngu Chi Son Peak - Sapa - Hanoi

04:30 Wake up early and have breakfast. Enjoy hot coffee or ginger tea before preparing for the final ascent.

05:30 Begin the final climb to Ngu Chi Son summit. Leave unnecessary personal belongings at the shelter and carry only essential items.

06:30 Reach the summit of Ngu Chi Son at 2,858m. Rest, take photos and enjoy the panoramic mountain scenery. Afterwards, begin the return to the overnight shelter.

10:00 Arrive back at the shelter, collect your belongings and begin the descent.

12:00 Stop for lunch along the trail.

16:00 Reach Suoi Thau and transfer by vehicle back to Sapa.

17:00 Arrive in Sapa, collect stored belongings and enjoy a traditional herbal bath. Spend the remaining time relaxing in Sapa before dinner at a local restaurant.

22:00 Board the overnight sleeper bus to Hanoi. Expected arrival in Hanoi is around 04:00 the following morning. End of tour.

Difficulty of the activity

Difficulty Level (7/10): Requires good physical fitness and substantial experience in outdoor activities. This level is not suitable for children. The tour can last from 2 to 4 days with very basic accommodations and primarily involves camping. Trekking can take up to 5 to 6 hours per day with difficult terrain, steep slopes, and high altitudes. Kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) can take up to 6 to 7 hours per day.

Physical Preparation Suggestion: running or kayaking/SUP for at least two weeks prior to departure. Run 2-3 times a week, covering 5 kilometers each time. Alternatively, kayak or SUP 2-3 times a week, covering a distance of 5-7 kilometers per session.

4. Trekking Route Note

  • This is a demanding high-mountain route among Vietnam’s 15 highest peaks. Guests with no previous mountain trekking experience or limited regular exercise should undertake appropriate physical preparation before departure.
  • Umove Adventure recommends carrying a small daypack of approximately 10L with no more than 2kg of essentials such as a wallet, phone and drinking water. Personal overnight belongings, daily water supplies and food for mountain meals are carried by the porter team.

5. Overnight on the Mountain

  • The group spends one night in a wooden mountain shelter at approximately 2,800m. Toilet and washing facilities are available. Sleeping equipment includes an air mattress or insulated sleeping mat together with a blanket or sleeping bag.

6. Food & Water

  • Dinner on the mountain consists of freshly cooked hot meals prepared by the porter team. Breakfast is typically fried rice, instant noodles or crepes, while lunch is generally pre-prepared cold food.
  • Drinking water is collected from mountain streams and boiled before use. Participants should bring a reusable water bottle for daily refills.
  • Hot tea and coffee are available at the shelter before and after meals.

7. Protecting the environment together

  • In order to limit the use of single-use plastic, Umove Adventure encourages each of us to prepare for ourselves a bottle of water with a 1L capacity for daily water refilling.
  • On the tour, tourists comply with the instructions and regulations on environmental protection at the destination. 

8. Medical assistance

  • Guests with cardiovascular conditions or joint and musculoskeletal problems, including knee, ankle or shoulder conditions, should consult a doctor before joining.
  • The tour guide carries a basic first-aid kit. Guests requiring specific medication should bring their own supply.
Q&A
When is the best time to trek Ngu Chi Son?

Each season offers a different experience. From September to November, the mountain landscape features golden rice fields and red maple foliage. From November to January, mist and cloud formations are common, with occasional frost or snow during cold spells. March and April are especially attractive for extensive rhododendron blooms.

Can children join this tour?

Umove Adventure does not generally recommend this tour for children because of its high difficulty level. Children aged over 12 who already have experience on adventure tours may be considered when accompanied by an adult.

Can I join if I have no previous trekking experience?

This is a demanding high-mountain route. If you have never trekked before or do little regular exercise, physical preparation before departure is strongly recommended. Please review Umove Adventure’s preparation guidance for Difficulty Level 7/10.

Can I join as a solo traveller?

Yes. This is a join-in group tour, so solo travellers are welcome. A minimum of 7 participants is required for the tour to operate. If the minimum group size is not reached, Umove Adventure will notify you at least one week before departure so you can transfer to another departure date or receive a refund of your deposit.

How much deposit is required?

A 50% deposit is required when booking, payable by bank transfer or card via OnePay. The remaining 50% must be paid no later than one day before departure. A booking is not confirmed until the deposit has been received.

Can I postpone or cancel before departure?

Yes. A fee may apply depending on how far in advance you postpone or cancel. Changing to another departure date or another tour may also be subject to availability and applicable fees.

Can vegetarian or special dietary requirements be accommodated?

Please inform Umove Adventure of any vegetarian or special dietary requirements before booking. We will check what can be accommodated at the destination and confirm the available options. Vegetarian meals can generally be arranged, although options vary by location.

Is there mobile phone coverage at the overnight shelter?

The overnight shelter is at approximately 2,800m and mobile phone coverage is generally unavailable. Guests should arrange important personal and work communications before beginning the trek.
